Pope calls for peace: finding harmony in wars

 

Pope Francis appealed to all warring countries to stop fighting

“Stop the war. Find a way to achieve a peace agreement. Strive for peace. Peace achieved through negotiations is always better than an endless war,” said Pope Francis He noted that in his sermons  he frequently as of my last update, there were calls for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

“I can pray for peace, and I pray a lot. And I ask,

“Please stop. Negotiate,” he said.

Statements from the Pope on the war

Pope Francis has addressed the war in Ukraine on multiple occasions.. However, his remarks sometimes seem vague. For example, in one of his statements he called on “to muster the courage to initiate talks with the Russian Federation ” and even mentioned a “white flag”. Then, perhaps in an attempt to correct his wordsA few days later, Pope Francis denounced wars occurring globally, including the conflict in Ukraine.

In addition, in one of his speechesPope Francis described the Buryats and Chechens as the most brutal Russian occupiers who had invaded Ukrainian territory. and gave the definition of a Ukrainian martyr.

Joe Biden says  Israel is not engaging in genocide in Gaza

US President Joe Biden says the IDF is not committing genocide in its military campaign against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. Reuters reports this.

“At a White House Jewish Heritage Month event, Biden stated that what is happening in Gaza is not genocide, and he rejected those allegations.”

He also stressed that he considers Israel a victim of the Hamas attack in the south of the country on October 7, 2023,  which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the taking of hundreds of hostages.

According to him, US support for the security of Israelis is “iron.”

“We stand with Israel to eliminate (Hamas leader Yahya – ed.) Sinwar and other Hamas militants. We are committed to the complete defeat of Hamas and are collaborating with Israel to achieve this goal, the head of the White House said.

Biden also promised to secure the release of hostages who were captured and still held by militants.

“We will bring them home, we will bring them home, no matter what,” he said and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip. In recent months Biden has been increasingly pressured by his party over his management of the Gaza conflict. The number of Palestinian fatalities has surpassed 35,000, according to the health ministry in Gaza , and the  The Israeli blockade has led to severe humanitarian conditions in the region.At many of his events across the country, Biden has faced demonstrations by supporters of Palestine who have called him “Genocide Joe” for his unwavering support for Israel.

War in the Gaza Strip: ICC decision and its consequences

On Monday,  May 20, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, declared the court’s intention to issue arrest warrants for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The warrants are supposed to be issued for”extermination, murder, hostage-taking, rape  and custodial sexual assault” during the military operations in the Gaza Strip .

The announcement drew outrage from President Biden and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Israeli officials also condemned such intentions.

Previously, Biden did not rule out the possibility of declaring a truce in the Gaza Strip “even tomorrow” if the terrorists release all the hostages.
