IDF responds to shelling from Lebanon: strikes on Hezbollah positions

Israeli warplanes have attacked ten Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon, which the militants have used to launch attacks on Israeli territory.

Conflict with Hezbollah Escalates: Israel Strikes Missile Bases and Observation Posts in Lebanon, Air Defenses Effectively Repel Enemy Attack

The Israeli military said the airstrikes targeted 10 Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon, such as Zibqin and Chihino, posing a serious threat to Israeli civilians.

The IDF also reported targeted strikes on Hezbollah observation positions in the Hula region of southern Lebanon. The IDF stressed that the militants carried out an attack, to which the air defense responded by intercepting the shells. “After the strikes on the rocket launchers, several shells were fired towards Israel and were found en route from Lebanon to the Arab al-Aramshe region,” the statement noted.

The IDF said that air defense systems were able to successfully intercept some of the shells, while the rest fell on uninhabited areas. There are currently no reports of casualties.

Escalation of the conflict: Ilvan shelling and Israeli retaliatory strikes

While shootings between Israel and Lebanon, where the Iranian-backed Hezbollah is active, are not uncommon, they have increased markedly in recent times. The escalation, amid rising tensions in the Middle East, has drawn particular attention. On July 27, Hezbollah carried out an attack on a stadium in Israel’s Golan Heights, killing more than a dozen children and wounding more than thirty others. Israel responded to the violence by warning of a possible “devastating” war and declaring that Hezbollah’s attack would not go unanswered. According to sources, Israel was preparing for a protracted military operation that could last several days, stemming from Iran and Hezbollah. On August 20, Israeli forces struck the Lebanese group’s warehouses in the Beka Valley and then attacked key Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, including Maroun al-Ras and Ayta al-Shab.

On August 25, Hezbollah militants attacked Israel with hundreds of rockets and drones, to which the IDF responded with air strikes on targets in Lebanon. The United States is concerned that the current clashes could escalate and lead to a large-scale regional conflict in the Middle East.
